Chinese Tea Tasting Course

In China, tea has thousands of years of history, and it is an important part of culture.  There are different types of tea produced there and many different ways to brew tea leaves.  The gongfu tea ceremony is the most exquisite of them all.

Rather than long steeping times, tea is brewed quickly over successive infusions and drunk from small cups over a long period of time.  This allows the tea drinker to become an engaged participant in the process of drinking tea, and it allows the drinker to experience many interesting qualities and nuances that are missed when drinking in any other way.

Brewing and drinking tea in this manner is a way of taking a break from life's responsibilities and a way of training your mind to find beauty and enjoyment in the simplest of things.

In China, Tea is a discipline, a practice, and an art.

This practice is called Gong Fu Cha which implies that it is a way of brewing tea that requires effort and attention over a sustained period of time.  There is no wrong way to make tea, but there are important guidelines you can learn from teamasters that will make your tea brewing and drinking experience as enjoyable and refined as possible.

Our class offerings were designed to resemble tea training courses in China.  We will not only teach you how to brew different types of tea, we will also help you develop your palate and sense of appreciation for the tea drinking experience in the same way sommeliers are trained in fine wines.  You will learn about different tea tools and which brewing devices are best for different teas.

You will also learn about how tea relates to Traditional Chinese Medicine and what teas are most suitable to drink in different seasons. Bring a friend and experience the art of Chinese tea first hand.

Classes are 2 hours in length.  $35 per person.  A maximum of 6 participants may join each tea training course.
